I sat at the red light
Behind a dump truck
And he wasn’t turning right
Even though
There was no oncoming traffic
From the left.
And that’s when I noticed
The sign
Above the stoplight
That said:
NO TURN ON RED

So as I waited,
I thought about
The car accidents
That must have happened
At that intersection
To warrant such a sign.

I guess we all need signs sometimes.

And by then
The traffic
That was facing us
Must have gotten a green light
Because cars started to turn left
In front of us
While our light stayed red…
Until it turned green.
And 2 more cars turned left
In front of us.

Which made me wonder –
Maybe they forgot
To put a sign
On that side
That said
NO TURN ON RED.
